OLJ Task 3: Reflections on the Impact of Change

Choose 2 of the 6 ways outlined in the blog post and reflect on how they have impacted on an organisation you are familiar with. You can apply both ‘ways’ to one organisation or you can refer to two different organisations. Write 200 words on each.

  1. Across industries, social media is going from a “nice to have” to an essential component of any business strategy

When mentioning this as a reason why social media is changing the world I reflected on my own school environment. Are schools becoming more of a business and does this require a social media marketing campaign or the like? When schools promote themselves through social media, they are able to reach a larger audience. When thinking about department schools this would have no real significance as schools within a certain area require certain students within the area to attend. How does this impact on independent schools who are, perhaps, able to reach a larger audience?

  1. Social media is helping us tackle some of the world’s biggest challenges, from human rights violations to climate change

When you think about students and the shift towards a project or inquiry based model of learning within schools, many teachers are coming up with real world problems for students to solve. While not all students are old enough to begin to solve human rights issues, this allowed me to question the roles of our older students. The article (Guzman, 2019) mentioned a key environmental issue of climate change which has recently been in the media. How can we use social media and project based learning to leverage our students to solve real world issues that deeply concern them?
